#653 of 678 scored in California by Solar.com Installer Score

How does SunPower compare where you live? Rankings are local; an installer that leads one city can trail in the next. See how they rank in your city →

Why this differs from star ratings: most five-star reviews say “great company” and stop, and star averages reward that. These category scores only count reviews with concrete evidence, weighted by recency and the reviewer’s track record. A company can hold a strong star average while specific categories score lower; that gap is usually where the real story is. Categories with more complaints than praise are the questions worth asking any bidder, not necessarily dealbreakers.

What this data covers: *Counts on this page, including the totals up top, come from investor-owned-utility interconnection records (SCE, SDG&E, PG&E). Work in municipal-utility territory, such as LADWP or city utilities, and outside California does not appear here, so this company's true totals are higher than shown. Unlike the county rankings, this profile also shows counties below the 250-install ranking floor.

SunPower reviews: what customers say

An independent synthesis of published customer feedback across Google and Yelp, updated September 28, 2026. Green marks praise, amber mixed experiences, red complaints.

Sales & proposal integrity

Sales Integrity4.4/10

Reviewers give a mixed-to-negative picture of the sales and proposal process. Many praise clear explanations and helpful quoting, but complaints are common about promises or initial proposals not matching the delivered system, storage sizing, or follow-through after signing.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Promise vs. delivery concerns. Other reviewers say the original proposal or sales conversation did not line up with what was ultimately installed or supported, especially around system sizing and post-sale accountability. Representative review excerpt: "I told you I needed a lot of storage but you only sold me enough to hold a few hours of power at night."

Clear upfront guidance. Some reviewers describe the sales process as professional and helpful, with reps explaining options and setting expectations clearly during quoting and contracting. Representative review excerpt: "So far still in the early stages of Solar installation project, but Valentina was an absolute pleasure to work with preparing quotes and options to help see the full picture."

Early-stage satisfaction with follow-through. A smaller set of reviews report that the team stayed helpful from the initial inquiry through proposal and installation, with good communication along the way. Representative review excerpt: "Our rep, Jay, and the rest of the team did a fantastic job from initial inquiry to proposal to installation and post-install support."

Price & financing transparency

Price Transparency1.9/10

This is the weakest-rated area in the review set. Reviewers frequently describe confusion around billing, refunds, lease or account transfers, and other finance-related issues, while only a small number mention smooth setup or helpful clarification.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Billing and refund disputes. Many complaints center on unresolved refund questions, account-transfer delays, or charges that reviewers felt were not handled clearly. Representative review excerpt: "This has been going over a month palmetto says that complete solar owes me a refund to which complete solar says it's Sun power who owes the refund to which..."

Incentive and cost confusion. Reviewers also describe dissatisfaction with final pricing or incentive timing, including cases where the expected financial picture did not match what they experienced after installation. Representative review excerpt: "All while we've never even broken even on our energy bill yet, and they're wasting the months where we would even have any potential to."

Helpful finance setup in a few cases. A small number of reviewers say staff were patient and able to work through financing or loan-access setup details without much trouble. Representative review excerpt: "She was courteous and patient since we had to work around to get her login into my loan payment access."

Communication & coordination

Communication3.6/10

Communication is another frequent pain point, although some customers report responsive and professional staff. The most common complaints involve missed callbacks, repeated transfers, weak handoffs, and difficulty getting help after problems surfaced.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Missed follow-up and transfers. A recurring complaint is that calls, messages, and escalation requests were not returned promptly, leaving customers to chase updates across departments. Representative review excerpt: "After that time I was told that I would receive a call back from Chris by the end of the day, but AGAIN I did not get a call back."

Helpful support, but with friction. A smaller group notes that issues were eventually worked through, but only after holds, extra calls, or other delays in reaching the right person. Representative review excerpt: "Not thrilled with a longer wait on hold, but the tech took time to work through the issue with us."

Responsive help from some staff. Some reviewers say individual team members were friendly, efficient, and able to guide them through questions or service issues. Representative review excerpt: "After a twenty-six minute wait on hold I was guided through my business needs by a friendly, efficient woman named Catherine Malaluan."

Timeline reliability

Timeline Reliability3.2/10

Reviews point to uneven schedule reliability, with some smooth projects but many accounts of long waits, missed appointments, and slow activation. Several customers say outside permitting or utility steps contributed to the timeline, but delays and no-shows still appear often in the feedback.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Long waits and missed appointments. Other reviewers report months-long delays, missed appointments, and activation problems that kept the system from going live when expected. Representative review excerpt: "We still can't activate the solar because they installed it to where someone physically has to come out but no one has come out and 4 appointments have been missed."

External factors sometimes cited. Some reviews note that inspection or utility timing affected the schedule, even when the company kept customers informed during the wait. Representative review excerpt: "I would have liked it to be turned on sooner but it was a function of our utility company."

Process finished on schedule for some. A number of reviewers say the project stayed on track or even finished sooner than expected, with permitting and utility steps handled smoothly. Representative review excerpt: "The set schedule was adhered to and, in fact, the project was completed in LESS time than planned (certainly a first for us)."

Workmanship & site care

Workmanship5.0/10

Workmanship lands near the middle overall. Many reviewers describe professional crews and solid installation quality, but complaints about roof damage, leaks, incomplete fixes, and cleaner site handling show up often enough to matter.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Professional installation work. Positive reviews often mention efficient crews and installation results that looked clean and professionally done. Representative review excerpt: "Also the installation looks excellent and it's a very professionally done job."

Roof and site damage concerns. Negative reviews describe broken tiles, leaks, or other site-care issues that they felt were caused or left unresolved during installation. Representative review excerpt: "Furthermore, the installation caused cracked roof tiles, which later led to leakage issues."

Some room for cleaner placement. A few customers were generally satisfied but still felt certain equipment placement could have been tidier or more refined. Representative review excerpt: "I feel the install of the electronics on the side of my house could have been cleaner but I didn’t specify and they didn’t ask."

Long-term support & performance

Long-Term Support5.4/10

Post-install feedback is mixed, leaning slightly negative in the tallies. Some reviewers report that the system is operating well and that technicians helped resolve issues, but many others describe slow service, monitoring or production problems, and frustration with warranty or repair follow-up.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Service and warranty frustrations. A common complaint is that support after turn-on was slow or difficult to access, especially when customers needed warranty help or repairs. Representative review excerpt: "3 months later, I was finally able to schedule a technician to come by to come take a look at the issues, and low and behold, they did not show..."

Systems working, but with caveats. A few reviews say the system appears to be performing, though they still note cost concerns, delays, or uncertainty about long-term reliability. Representative review excerpt: "When you take into the fact that you are paying for the actual system also in addition to the electric it is still costly."

Helpful post-install problem solving. Some reviewers say technicians responded quickly, restored service, and handled follow-up support in a professional way. Representative review excerpt: "Anthony and Leroy Mendoza came by and sorted our problem out so quickly and professionally, answered all our questions and got our solar up and running again!"

Bottom line: Across 2,897 substantive reviews, SunPower’s profile is mixed overall, with standout weaknesses in price and financing transparency, communication, and timeline reliability. Workmanship and long-term support are closer to average, but both still include meaningful complaints about installation damage, service delays, and post-install follow-up.

Important context: this chart shows investor-owned-utility records only. Companies that shift work toward municipal-utility territory (LADWP and city power departments) or other states will show declining bars here even while building steadily elsewhere, and 2025-26 records also lag real installation dates. Treat this as a partial window, not the company's full trajectory.

How we built this data

Methodology: Counts are residential PV interconnections in investor-owned-utility territory (PG&E, SCE, SDG&E) per CPUC Rule 21 public records through May 2026. Postal and name variants are merged. Municipal utility territory such as LADWP, Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Anaheim, and Riverside Public Utilities is not included in those CPUC counts. Counts show recorded installations, not quality ratings. Reported costs are self-reported on owned-system interconnections. No installer can pay for placement.

Who we are: Solar.com is a solar marketplace — we connect homeowners with installers and earn a fee when projects move forward. These rankings and scores are computed from public installation records and published customer reviews. No installer can pay for placement, and no installer — including those we work with — can pay to change a score.
